Keeping Track of Posts & Assignments in Moodle

To keep track of what forum posts individual students have made in Moodle, the following is recommended:

In your course click on the Participants link found in the Navigation block. A new page will display with all of the course participants listed.

Click on an individual participant and that participant’s profile will display. In the Navigation block you will also see that participants’ name now individually listed.

Click on Forum Posts shown underneath the participant’s name.

Then click on Posts. After you click on Posts, a new page will be displayed with all of the posts that the student has made. Posts are listed in chronological order with the most recent first. (Use Posts rather than Discussions. Discussions only show threads that the student began rather than all posts the students has made. If you want to see a particular post in context, click on the See post in context link which is shown underneath the student’s post.

To know which students have turned in assignments, click on the particular Assignment link from the main course page. When you are taken to the assignment page you will see the following:

Next you will see a page with all participants in your course listed:

Moodle LMS

The left-most column contains participant’s names. The Last modified column will show either online text that was submitted or files that were submitted for the assignment. The example above shows files submitted with Assginment type: Advanced uploading of files. The Status column shows whether or not the student has been graded. The word ‘Grade’ indicates that the student’s work has not yet been graded. ‘Update’ indicates that the assignment has been graded. If you have set up the assignment to allow resubmissions, ‘Update’ will turn back to ‘Grade’ when a student makes a new submission. It is recommended that Assignments be graded by clicking on Grade via the actual assignment page rather than via the Gradebook.

End-User Support for Moodle course instructors is available through our Moodle Reference Desk.
