What is a Blog?

Mostly blogs are used to provide commentary or news on a particular subject. Blogs are also used as an online journal. A blog might contain text, images, links and other webpages.

Blogs in Moodle

Blogs in moodle are user based, each user has a blog. The blog allows you to post entries. These posts can be seen only by yourself, by other students in your class/course or everyone on the moodle site, depending on the settings you choose (Publish to Settings). When a blog entry is made, tags that associate with the blog entry can be used. There can be more than one tags for the same blog entry.

Tags are descriptions that help categories what the blog entry is about. They can only be one word.

Examples of how blogs can be used?

Blogs can be used for personal use. It can be an online journal for self reflection or just an area for storing private notes and drafts. (Remember to change the setting so only you can see the posts.) Teachers can use it as a daily class log.

Access Your Moodle Blog

Step 1: Login to Moodle

Step 2: Click on your Username, right beside the Log out link.

Step 3: Click on the Blog tab.

Step 4: It will now show you all the blog entries you have made. All of the Blog tags can also be seen on the right bar, under Blog tags heading.

Viewing blogs entered for a specific course:

If you are already inside a course, you have the option to view blog entries specific to that course. Just click on View Course entries on the right sidebar under the Blog Menu Heading.

How to Make a Blog Entry?

Step 1: Login to Moodle

Step 2: Click on your Username, right beside the Log out link.

Step 3: Click on the Blog tab.

Step 4: Click on the add a new entry link.

(*NOTE: If your blog entry is specific to a course, then enter into the course before you click on your username and then to the Blog tab. That is, enter into the course before Step 2.)

Step 5: Now, enter the General Info and the Tags.

Entry Title: The title of the blog entry

Blog Entry body: The content of the blog entry goes here.

Attachment: Use this tool to attach any files you may want to.

Publish to: Dont forget to change your publish to settings. Set to Anyone on this site by default. This setting allows you to make the blog entry visible to yourself only or to anyone on the site. Choose the option you want.

Tags: Choose the official tags if they are relevant. Also enter tags you think are appropriate for the blog entry. Tags can be only one word and should be seperated by commas.

Step 6: Click Save Changes, the blog entry should now be posted.

How to Insert Blog Menu Block in your course Homepage?

A Blog Menu Block will allow for easier and faster access to the Blog page. A Blog Menu Block can be inserted in the Course Homepage.

Step 1: Turn Editing ON

Step 2: On the right side of the page, Under the Block Menu, Click the Add Dropdown Menu. Select Blog Menu.

Step 3: The Blog Menu should now appear. Turn editing off if you are done. You can insert Blog Tags Block in the same way.
