Why You Want to Get a SSL Certificate Before the New Year
What is a SSL certificate?
SSL Certificates protect your user’s sensitive information by encrypting the data they send to you. Once you receive the information it is decrypted.
How does the certificate work?
When a website visitor enters an SSL-protected area of your website, your SSL certificate automatically creates an encrypted connection with the visitor’s browser.
Once the connection is complete, a padlock icon and HTTPS prefix appear in the visitor’s browser bar to show them they’re safe to share personal details. If you have a high-assurance EV Certificate, your visitor’s status bar will also turn green.
All information passing to and from your website is now scrambled by 2048-bit encryption. This type of encryption makes it difficult for hackers to break into.
Why should I get a certificate for my online learning site before January 2017?
For quite some time, the Internet standard was that SSL certificates were only recommended for domains or specific pages of websites where sensitive information (such as financial data) would be transmitted or received. However, that recommendation is slowly changing.
In an effort to make the Internet more secure, starting January 1st 2017, Chrome will be showing a “Not Secure” warning message on any site that requires logins but does not encrypt its traffic.
